Our Community and Its History

Chicago’s intellectual legacy was founded on a parallel legacy of visionary philanthropy. Following in the footsteps of the University’s founders, thousands of alumni and friends continue to be vital partners in Chicago’s transformative contributions to knowledge and society. These individuals and families join with you, the University’s staff and faculty, to form a distinctive community in support of Chicago.

When staff and faculty join those alumni and friends who give to the University, we magnify the contributions we make each day in our work, as well as unify and strengthen the University community.

Directing Your Gift, Choose Your Legacy

Make your gift to match your interests. You can direct your support to any school, area, or program within the University. Many members of the campus community give to areas that reflect their personal interests, such as the Laboratory Schools, the Smart Museum of Art, the Urban Education Initiative, or the departments in which they work. Others choose to support the core educational units of the University: the College, the Social Sciences Division, the Humanities Division, or the Physical Sciences Division.
