Amy Derick, MD’02, graduated in the top 10 percent of her class from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed her residency at the University of Chicago Medicine, and served as chief resident in 2005. During medical school, Derick was awarded the Catherine Dobson Prize for best oral presentation at the 56th Annual Senior Scientific Session. She was also granted the American Medical Women’s Association Award for outstanding scholastic achievement. In 2015 Derick was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Early Achievement by the University of Chicago Medical and Biological Sciences Alumni Association. In 2017 she was named a Top Doctor for Cancer by Chicago magazine.

Derick has served on the Medical and Biological Sciences Alumni Association’s Alumni Council since 2013. She joined the Alumni Board in 2014. She was also a reunion class chair in 2012 and 2017. Derick is a board-certified dermatologist and CEO and medical director of Derick Dermatology LLC, a private dermatology practice serving the needs of more than 100,000 patients in four Illinois offices: Arlington Heights, Barrington, Crystal Lake, and Elgin. In addition, Derick holds an academic appointment as an instructor of clinical dermatology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and is an academic associate member for the University of Chicago Section of Dermatology, Biological Sciences Division, Pritzker School of Medicine.

She has served on the executive committee and the board of directors for the Women’s Dermatologic Society and is president of the Illinois Dermatological Society and vice president of the Chicago Dermatological Society. She is a member of the Illinois State Medical Society’s council on government affairs and serves on the Medicare Carrier Advisory for Dermatology in Illinois. Derick also serves on the executive committee of the advisory board for the American Academy of Dermatology.

Derick is a published author who has conducted notable peer-reviewed research in the field of tattoos and body art. She is a chapter author on dermatology in several textbooks and has written numerous scholarly publications. Derick serves as a media resource for the American Academy of Dermatology and is frequently interviewed by outlets including ABC, CBS, NBC, WGN, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, Good Housekeeping, Glamour and US News & World Report.

Derick earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, graduating summa cum laude, and was honored as a Notre Dame Scholar and named to the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Derick lives in suburban Chicago with her husband, Michael, and three young children: Charlie, Henry and Jane.
