Louis Fogel, PhD’00, JD’03, is a double alumnus who embodies the University of Chicago’s commitment to considering alternative careers and paving new paths. Fogel is a partner in Jenner & Block’s Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice who counsels clients in all aspects of patent litigation in a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, biological drugs, and medical devices. Since graduation, Fogel has been speaking to graduate students and postdocs in the biological sciences about these alternative career paths. He hopes to continue doing so as an ambassador on the Alumni Board.

Beyond advocating for the biological sciences and the numerous opportunities that are available to their graduates, Fogel also serves on the boards of the Family Defense Center, UChicago Hillel, Chicago Chess Foundation, and the Illinois Chess Association. He also coaches the basketball and soccer teams of his children, Alex, Jonah, and Zach. Louis Fogel is married to Tamar Karsh-Fogel, JD’00. Fogel will join the Alumni Board and represent the Physical Sciences Division.
