Bjarne P. Tellmann, JD’95

Bjarne P. Tellmann, JD’95, is general counsel and chief legal officer of Pearson, a Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 company with more than 30,000 employees in 70 countries that provides a range of education products and services to institutions, governments, and individual learners. At Pearson Tellmann leads a team of 170 legal professionals across six continents.

Tellmann previously worked in Europe, Asia, and the United States in various capacities with Coca-Cola, most recently as their associate general counsel. He has also held various legal positions at Kimberly-Clark and the law firms of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and White & Case LLP.

Originally from Norway, Tellmann holds a JD with honors from the University of Chicago and a master of science in economics from the London School of Economics. He has also completed Harvard Law School’s Leadership in Corporate Counsel program.

Tellmann is passionate about education. At Pearson he heads up an innovative mentorship program that the legal department has developed in collaboration with the National Federation of the Blind to mentor young disabled legal professionals. He also sits on a panel of general counsel advisers assisting the United Kingdom’s Cass Business School in developing a legal-focused MBA. In addition to his role on the Alumni Board, Tellmann sits on the University of Chicago Law School Council.

Prior to studying law, he was a professional actor, having appeared in several Norwegian and Swedish films and TV shows.

Tellmann is a frequent speaker, panelist, and lecturer in the United States and Europe, and he publishes regularly. He is the author of the Career Path column in the ACC Docket, the award-winning journal of the Association of Corporate Counsel, and he serves on the editorial board of Modern Legal Practice. His book, Building an Outstanding Legal Team: Battle-Tested Strategies from a General Counsel (Globe Law and Business), was published earlier this year.
