Paul Rockey, MD'70

Paul Rockey, MD’70, is a scholar in residence at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. He previously directed the Division of Graduate Medical Education at the American Medical Association for nearly a decade. After medical school and an internship in Seattle, he was a solo physician at a Montana Indian reservation for two years. Upon the completion of his internal medicine residency, Rockey earned a master of public health at the University of Washington and embarked on an academic career of patient care, teaching, and administration in Seattle. He later served as associate dean at the University of Massachusetts’s and Southern Illinois University’s medical schools. He retired from the US Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel with 25 years of service. He is a professor emeritus of medicine and medical humanities at Southern Illinois University and a volunteer physician at CommunityHealth in Chicago.

Rockey has served on the executive committee of the Medical and Biological Sciences Alumni Council since 2011 and now chairs the council. Under Rockey’s leadership, his 40th reunion class received the highest participation award. In addition to working in support of alumni, Rockey has served as an alumni student interviewer. He frequently attends medical student alumni events and is a constant promoter of UChicago.
