Agnes Lugo-Ortiz

Agnes Lugo-Ortiz is associate professor of Latin American and Caribbean literatures at the University of Chicago. Having earned her BA from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras and her PhD from Princeton, Lugo-Ortiz examines the relationship between culture and politics in 19th-century Latin America and the modern Caribbean, paying special attention to nationalism, gender, race, and sexuality. She is the author of Identidades imaginadas: Biografía y nacionalidad en el horizonte de la guerra (Cuba, 1860–1898) and coeditor of Herencia: The Anthology of Hispanic Literature of the United States, Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage, and Slave Portraiture in the Atlantic World.
